(Chandler, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s soccer team (12-0-1, 9-0-1 in ACCAC) took control as the second half progressed on Tuesday in its ACCAC conference match at Chandler-Gilbert Community College (4-7, 2-5).
The No. 7 ranked Aztecs defeated the Coyotes 6-1, sweeping the regular season meetings and outscoring the Coyotes 12-1 in their games. Pima won the first game 6-0 on Sept. 12 at the West Campus Aztec Field.

The Aztecs led 1-0 at halftime but the Coyotes scored in the first minute of the second half as Audrey King tied the game with her goal. Pima went on to score five unanswered goals to secure the win.
Sophomore Gabriela Mendoza (Tucson Magnet HS), who was named ACCAC Division II Player of the Week on Tuesday (for Sept. 27-Oct. 3), scored a hat trick. She put the Aztecs on the board in the 17th minute and put them up for good with her score in the 61st minute to make it 2-1. She helped seal the win with Pima’s final insurance goal in the 87th minute. Mendoza has nine goals in the season.
Sophomores Ava Dagnino (Salpointe Catholic HS) and Alyssa Allan each produced a goal and an assist in the game. Dagnino assisted in Mendoza’s first goal and scored in the 82nd minute with an assist from sophomore Kailyn O’Connell (Catalina Foothills HS) to put it at 5-1. Dagnino has 12 goals and four assists so far this season.
Allan helped build Pima’s lead with her penalty kick goal in the 75th minute to make it 4-1. She assisted in Mendoza’s final goal as she now has 12 goals and 12 assists on the season.
Freshman Ryan McCauley (Canyon del Oro HS) gave the Aztecs a two-goal advantage at 3-1 after she scored on a header with an assist from freshman Hazel Ramos (Cienega HS) in the 67th minute.
The Aztecs outshot the Coyotes 20-5 in on-goal attempts. Freshman Amaya Andrade (Flowing Wells HS), who was named ACCAC Division II Goalkeeper of the Week (Sept. 27-Oct. 3), finished the game with four saves.
The Aztecs will hit the road once again on Friday for an ACCAC conference afternoon match against GateWay Community College. The game will be played at South Mountain Community College and will start at 3:45 p.m.
