(Chandler, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (9-2, 8-2 in ACCAC) would not be denied on Tuesday as it faced off with Chandler-Gilbert Community College in an ACCAC conference road test.
The No. 6 ranked Aztecs scored four goals in the first half and tacked on another three in the second half to topple the Coyotes 7-0 for their fifth straight win and seventh shutout victory of the season.
Sophomore Alek Peral (Nogales HS) produced a hat trick as he scored three straight goals in the 25th, 30th and 51st minutes to put Pima up 5-0.
Freshman Michael Prokopi added two goals. He scored Pima’s second goal in the 23rd minute and added a final insurance goal in the 88th minute.
Freshman Noah Marshman (Pinnacle HS) put the Aztecs on the scoreboard in the 10th minute with a penalty kick goal.
Freshman Luis Schmid scored his first goal of the season as he made it 6-0 with his goal in the 87th minute.
The Aztecs finished the match with 15 shots on goal and held the Coyotes (2-7-1, 2-4-1) to no shots on goal. Sophomore Tommaso Leonardi played the first 30 minutes, and freshman Tijn Dik protected the net for the final 60 minutes.The Aztecs outscored the Coyotes 12-0 in their two meetings during the regular season. The Aztecs won the first matchup 5-0 on Sept. 12 at the West Campus Aztec Field.
The Aztecs will hit the road for a rare afternoon match on Friday when they take on GateWay Community College. The match will be played at South Mountain Community College at 1:30 p.m.
