(Glendale, AZ)  The Park University Gilbert baseball team dropped a non-conference contest against Arizona Christian this evening 18-2 at Greenway High School. The Buccaneers four-game winning streak is snapped and they now stand at 9-8 on the season.

In these midweek games, it is an opportunity for some players to see action who may not normally see action where they would in a conference game. This was the case for Caleb Rozier, who got the starting nod on the mound for the Buccaneers. Rozier, who has not pitched previously in his college career was touched up for 4 runs on four hits in the first.

This was the start of a long night for the Bucs as ACU was able to break the game open in the second and third innings as they scored six runs off of Angel Heredia in the second and seven against Matthew Medina making his season debut in the third. Josh Leckey came on to close things out in the third and surrendered one run in his 1.1 innings.

The Buc bats were also silent for most of the game as they did not score until the eighth inning. The Bucs had their opportunities but could not come up with the key hit with runners on to put more runs on the board. The Bucs stranded 13 runners for the game.

Tommy Pinnow had the only multi hit game for Park Gilbert who had 11 hits for the game but the team also had 13 strikeouts. Pinnow also had one of the two Buccaneer RBI’s.

After surrendering 18 runs in the first four innings, the Park pitching staff help the Firestorm scoreless over the last four innings. As Diego Bustillos, Adrian Gamez, Aiden Guthrie and Diego Bellozo Pacheco each pitched an inning and put a 0 on the board.

The Bucs now head to California to return to conference play against Westcliff this Friday and Saturday, March 1-2. The Bucs are 3-0 in the Cal Pac after sweeping Saint Katherine on opening weekend. Westcliff is 0-3 after being swept by Benedictine Mesa.
