Transfer from Houston is the second newcomer from Texas added this summer

(Tempe, AZ)  Sun Devil Softball continued to build its roster for the 2023-24 campaign with the addition of transfer Ayden Allen, head coach Megan Bartlett announced on Wednesday.

Allen makes her way to Tempe after spending last season at the University of Houston. The Prosper, Texas native appeared in four games for the Cougars last season, driving in one run in limited action.

“We are so pleased Ayden chose Tempe to be her home for the next three years,” Bartlett shared. “Ayden is a middle infielder with big tools. She is also a driven and intelligent young woman that will be an awesome addition to the program.”

A four-year varsity player at Prosper High School, Allen helped the team win 50 games in the 2019 and 2021 seasons. She was a three-time all-district first team selection (no awards in 2020 due to COVID) that was named TGCA 6A All-State performer, District 5-6A First Team All-District, DFW FP All-Metro Plex 1st Team, and Scorebook Live Top 30 Middles in Texas in 2022. Allen was also named DFW FP All-Metro Plex Team and All-District 5-6A First Team in 2021 as Prosper was a Texas UIL 6A Region Finalist.

Allen is the daughter of Ryan and Dagmar, and she has an older brother, John Brendan, that attends the University of North Texas. Her mother, Dagmar, ran Track and Cross Country at Texas State University, which is where her parents met and were married in 2001, while her father, Ryan, played football, basketball and baseball at a high level growing up.

With the addition of Allen, ASU is up to 11 newcomers committed to joining the team for the upcoming season. That group features seven transfers – including a redshirt freshman – and four true freshmen. The Sun Devils will return 11 from the 2023 season, including Pac-12 home run leader Jordyn VanHook and pitcher Marissa Schuld for their final seasons.
