York Promoted to Women’s Basketball Head Coach

(Gilbert, AZ)  Interim Director of Athletics Angelique Claussen has announced the promotion of Ben York to head coach of the women’s basketball program at Park University Gilbert. York has been an assistant coach with the program for the past two seasons.

“Ben has a great passion for women’s basketball,” says Claussen. “His background and work in the NBA and WNBA will benefit the players in this program as it continues to improve every year.”

York has been the recruiting coordinator for the Buccaneers during his tenure as an assistant coach and has been instrumental in bringing in most of the players he will now mentor as the helmsman for the program.

York played basketball for Douglas County High School in Castle Rock, Colorado and later went on to receive a tryout invitation for the International Basketball League in 2007.

During his time with the NBA and WNBA, Coach York was mentored by former NBA star and WNBA Champion Head Coach, Corey Gaines, and WNBA Champion Head Coach, Sandy Brondello. He is an avid writer and has penned over 500 articles on women’s basketball appearing in publications for ESPN, SLAM Magazine, WNBA.com, NBA.com and Dime Magazine.

York was also a player development/assistant coach at Poston Butte High School in Arizona helping the Broncos to a Region Co-Championship in 2020-21. He has also been a renowned individual skills and player development coach since 2008.

Coach York resides in Queen Creek with his wife, Aubrie. Both cancer survivors, they are active in raising awareness and volunteering at numerous cancer-based non-profit organization.
