Osornio strikes first with goal but Aztecs Men’s Soccer finishes in a tie with Yavapai College

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (8-1-2, 5-1-2 in ACCAC) faced a tough matchup on Saturday against Yavapai College at the West Campus Aztec Field.

The No. 5 ranked Aztecs snapped the Roughriders’ four-game winning streak but couldn’t close the deal on a win as Yavapai scored late in the second half and the game ended in a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes of play.

The Aztecs took a 1-0 advantage after sophomore Ernesto Osornio (Ironwood HS) scored on an assist from fellow sophomore Jacob Garcia (Walden Grove HS) in the 41st minute.

The score remained until the Roughriders tied the game in the 81st minute with a goal by Iann Topete.

Osornio had a chance for the golden goal on a free kick in overtime but Yavapai goalkeeper Rushon Sandy made the save the preserve the tie score.

Freshman Cristian Sattin finished the game with nine saves.

The Aztecs will play their final regular season home game at the West Campus Aztec Field on Tuesday when they host Paradise Valley Community College. Game is set to start at 4:30 p.m.
