(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s tennis team (3-2) avenged its loss against Eastern Arizona College from earlier this season on Tuesday in Thatcher, AZ.
The Aztecs beat the Gila Monsters 5-2 as the Aztecs won both doubles matches and took three of the five singles matches.
Sophomore Ashley Fitzsimmons (Walden Grove HS) and freshman Valeria Miranda (Sunnyside HS) won their No. 2 doubles match over Ana Khabarova and Stephanie Bencomo 8-4. Fitzsimmons won her No. 3 singles match against Heidi Simons 6-2, 6-0.
The No. 1 doubles team of freshmen Olivia Manheimer (Ironwood Ridge HS) and Melina Oropeza (Nogales HS) defeated Clara Desbiolles and Simons 8-3. Oropeza defeated Khabarova 4-0, retired.
Freshman Jazmin Nunez (Cholla HS) defeated Tiffany Weech 6-1, 6-2 in her No. 5 singles match.
Manheimer fell to Desbiolles 6-1, 6-1 in her No. 1 singles match and Miranda lost her No. 4 singles match to Bencomo 6-0, 6-1.
The Aztecs lost to the Gila Monsters 5-4 on Mar. 7 at the West Campus Tennis Courts.
The Aztecs will be back on the road on Thursday when they play at Mesa Community College. The match begins at 1:30 p.m.
