(Mexicali, BC) The Mexicali team avenged their loss to Tucson and tied the series at the Nest, defeating the Tucson team 9-1.
Tucson’s starting pitcher, Dakota Chalmers (0-2), took the loss, lasting only 2 innings on the mound, allowing 5 runs, striking out 2, and walking 2. The winning pitcher, Erick Casillas, came in as a reliever and pitched 3 innings, striking out 5 and not allowing a run.
The visitors opened the scoring with 2 runs in the first inning thanks to a double by Yadir Drake, who drove in one run, and another on a single by Alex Mejía, who also drove in Drake.
Three more runs in the top of the second inning extended the lead to 5-0 over the Tucson team. Alejandro Flores started the rally with a solo home run, Ren Tachioka drove in another with a double, and the third came on a sacrifice fly by Yadir Drake, scoring Esteban Florial. Tucson closed the gap in the bottom of the fourth inning with a solo home run by Agustín Ruíz.
Mexicali pulled away in the fifth inning with a four-run rally that put them up 9-1. Alex Mejía drove in the first run with a single, scoring Yadir Drake, and the second run came on a single by Julián León, who brought in Alex Mejía and Phillip Evans. The ninth run came on a single by Esteban Florial.
