(Aliso Viejo, CA) The Great Southwest Athletic Conference announced its winners for players of the week and athletes of the month, presented by Athletic Solutions. Park University Gilbert’s Riley Wortman was named the GSAC Golfer of the Month in September.
Wortman takes home the honor of GSAC Golfer of the Month for the first time in his career, after scoring an average of 71.3 through six rounds in the month of September.
The senior from Queen Creek, Ariz. began the month winning the Park-Gilbert Fall Shootout on Sept. 11, earning the second individual tournament win of his career while leading his team to a first-place finish. After shooting a 73 and 71 on days one and two of the Park-Gilbert Shootout at Whirlwind GC, Riley closed out round three with a nine-birdie round at Las Colinas GC; en route to a career and program best 63 (eight-under-par).
At the OUAZ Fall Invitational last week, Wortman finished in an individual tie for third place out of 68 total golfers. He scored a 77, 70, and 74 in the three rounds at Sterling Grove Golf + Country Club in Surprise, Ariz.
Wortman and the Bucs are currently competing in the Battling of the Desert this week from Monday to Tuesday, hosted by the University of the Southwest at the Rocklands Community Links in Hobbs, N.M. Through one round, Wortman is currently tied for 16th at one-under-par in a competitive field featuring two schools in the NAIA Men’s Golf Top-25 (No. 10 Texas Wesleyan, No. 12 Wayland Baptist).
