Aztecs Baseball scores nine runs in the 7th inning to run rule Chandler-Gilbert CC

(Chandler, AZ)  The Pima Community College baseball team (24-24, 16-19 in ACCAC) picked up a bounce back win on Wednesday as it traveled to Chandler-Gilbert Community College (26-25, 17-18) for an ACCAC conference game.

The Aztecs broke the game open with nine runs in the 7th inning to beat the Coyotes 16-6 in seven innings.

Sophomore Mike Jones (Canyon del Oro HS) hit a shot to center field that scored sophomores Owen Wade (Pinnacle HS) and Matt MacDonald to make it 14-6. Jones scored on an error after a flyball was dropped in left field. Sophomore Ramon Martinez capped off the inning with a run after a passed ball.
Freshman Adriel Figueroa-Brito, sophomore Jackson Glueck, Wade and MacDonald all had RBI singles in the inning. Sophomore Leon Cereceres had a sacrifice-fly RBI to bring in the first run.

The Aztecs got on the board with three runs in the 1st inning. Cereceres scored on a fielder’s choice. Freshman Damian Lorta (Desert View HS) knocked a two-run RBI double to left field to bring in Figueroa-Brito and freshman Cooper Kruk (Catalina Foothills HS).

Figueroa-Brito had a sacrifice-fly RBI in the 2nd inning to score Martinez.

Kruk made it 5-0 after he hit a lead-off homer to center field in the 3rd inning.

MacDonald added to the offense as he hit an RBI single in the 5th inning to make it 6-1 and had a bases loaded walk in the 6th inning to put it at 7-3.

Kruk finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBIs and four runs scored while MacDonald was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and one run. Cereceres closed out the game going 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Martinez went 1-for-2 with three runs scored. Figueroa-Brito finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs and Lorta went 1-for-2 with two RBIs.

Sophomore Quintin Hennesy (Horizon HS) picked up the win as he pitched five innings, giving up six runs (six earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts on 52 pitches.

The Aztecs batted .424 for the game and generated eight walks.

The Aztecs are back on the road on Friday for an ACCAC conference game against GateWay Community College. It will be played at Gene Autry Park in Mesa at 3:00 p.m.
