(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s track & field team opened the Region I postseason on Monday and Tuesday as it competed at the Region I Multi’s and 10K Championships at Mesa Community College.
The Aztecs secured 25 team points that go towards next week’s Region I Championships.
Sophomore Hannah Droeg (Casteel HS) captured the Region I title in the Heptathlon with a total of 4974 points; falling short of her personal record of 4500 points. She earned 10 team points.
Droeg took first place in six of the seven events; 100-meter hurdles (14.97 seconds), High Jump (1.63 meters), Shot Put (10.55 meters), 200 meters (26.25), Long Jump (5.53 meters) and Javelin (36.72 meters). She finished in second place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:29.18.
The Aztecs secured a total of 24 points just in the Heptathlon. Freshman Tess Sage (Arcadia HS) claimed third place (six points) with a total of 3950 points while freshman Kathleen Farley (Perry HS) took fourth place (five points) with 3743 points. Sophomore Layla Konski (Ironwood Ridge HS) was sixth (three points) with 3263 points.
Sophomore Elizabeth Coppola (Pusch Ridge Christian HS) earned one point for the Aztecs in the 10,000-meter race finishing with a time of 44:27.45.
The Aztecs will compete at the Region I Championships on Tuesday, April 28 and Thursday, April 30 at Mesa Community College.
