(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College baseball team (15-6, 8-4 in ACCAC) picked up an ACCAC conference sweep on Tuesday at the West Campus Aztec Field.
Sophomore Jackson Glueck made his hits count as he closed out the day going 2-for-8 with five RBIs and two runs scored. Freshman Adriel Figueroa-Brito finished the day 3-for-7 with an RBI and three runs scored.
Sophomores Shawn Barros (Salpointe Catholic HS) and Ian Lemus (Empire HS) got the wins on the mound.
Game 1: (21) Pima Aztecs 4, Phoenix Bears 2
The Aztecs struck first and held off a Bears’ rally to snag the first game.
Freshman Ezra Vidal (Sahuarita HS) put the Aztecs on the board in the 1st inning with an RBI single to score sophomore Leon Cereceres, who led off the inning with a walk. Glueck had his first RBI of the day after a groundout play scored Figueroa-Brito to make it 2-0.
Glueck went yard in the 4th inning with a two-run homer to bring in freshman Cooper Kruk (Catalina Foothills HS) as Pima led 4-0.
The Bears scored two runs in the 6th inning to put a halt to Barros’ shutout. Sophomore Kai Fitak came in to close the door on Phoenix College’s rally.
Glueck went 1-for-3 with three RBIs while Vidal was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Figueroa-Brito and Kruk each finished 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Barros pitched five and one-third innings, giving up two runs (two earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts and one walk on 90 pitches. Fitak picked up the save, pitching one and two-third innings with four strikeouts and one walk.

Game 2: (21) Pima Aztecs 9, Phoenix Bears 5
The Aztecs broke up a tie game with five runs in the 6thinning to help earn the sweep.
The Aztecs did their damage all with two outs in the 6th inning. Glueck put the Aztecs ahead with a two-run RBI single to score Cereceres and Figueroa-Brito. Freshman Damian Lorta (Desert View HS) drew a walk and sophomore Matt MacDonald drove a two-run RBI triple to score Glueck and Lorta. MacDonald made it 9-4 after he scored on a wild pitch.
The Aztecs took the lead in the 1st inning with four runs. Figueroa-Brito, Lorta, freshman Westin Thompson and sophomore Quintin Hennesy (Horizon HS) all had RBI hits in the inning.
Glueck finished 1-for-5 with two RBIs while MacDonald went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Lorta was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs. Figueroa-Brito finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs.
Lemus pitched the final four innings in relief, as he gave up two runs (one earned) on two hits with five strikeouts and four walks on 75 pitches.

The Aztecs will hit the road on Saturday for an ACCAC conference doubleheader at Glendale Community College. First game starts at 12:00 p.m.
