(Mexicali, BC) Tucson took the first game of the doubleheader, securing a 6-5 victory in a back-and-forth affair.
With two outs, Agustín Ruiz opened the scoring with his fourth home run of the season in the very first inning, putting Matías Carrillo’s team ahead.
Mexicali responded by tying the game in the bottom of the same inning with a sacrifice fly by Esteban Florial.
The Tucson team regained the lead in the top of the second inning when Gaige Howard scored on a double play grounder by Missael Valenzuela.
Mexicali woke up and took the lead in the bottom of the third inning with a home run by Alejandro Flores, who drove in Alex Mexía, making the score 3-2.
The game was tied in the fourth inning against Valente Bellozo, when Agustín Ruiz scored on a sacrifice fly by Gaige Howard.
Tucson took the lead in the sixth inning with Jesús Cruz on the mound. Ramón Mendoza hit a double that drove in Alejandro Quezada with the go-ahead run.
Charlie Hasty came in to shut down the Mexicali rally and earn the save. The win went to Christian Edwards in relief, while Jesús Cruz took the loss.
