Isaiah Hill scores 31 points as Men’s Basketball topples South Mountain CC

(Phoenix, AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s basketball team (9-0, 2-0 in ACCAC) handed South Mountain Community College its first ACCAC conference loss of the season (10-2, 3-1) and remained undefeated after Wednesday’s game in Phoenix.

The No. 10 ranked Aztecs built a double digit advantage in the first half and maintained it in their 82-61 win over the Cougars. Pima’s 82 points scored is the lowest total in the first nine games of the season.

Up 10-8, the Aztecs used a 15-4 run as sophomore Isaac Johnson’s basket made it 25-12 with 11:19 left in the first half.

Freshman Isaiah Hill (Premier Prep Academy) scored five points in the run but later had a stretch of scoring 16 of Pima’s 21 points to make it 42-20. Hill hit five 3-pointers in the first half. The Aztecs led 50-28 at halftime as Hill closed it out with 21 points.

The Aztecs led by as much as 30 points on three occasions in the second half.

Hill scored a team-high 31 points on 12 for 16 shooting and 7 for 8 from downtown to go with three rebounds and three assists.

Sophomore Brock Mendoza scored 12 points as he was 4 for 6 from the field and had six rebounds while freshman Will Feagles (Notre Dame Prep) added 11 points after he was 3 for 6 from beyond the arc.

Sophomore Mason Hunt (Bradshaw Mountain HS) scored five points in the second half and dished out nine assists.

Freshman Gerron Graham had eight points, four rebounds and four assists off the bench. Sophomore Isaac Johnson contributed with seven points and six rebounds.

The Aztecs went 29 for 54 (53.7 percent) from the field and 13 for 22 (59.1 percent) from three-point range.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Aztec Gymnasium on Saturday when they host Glendale Community College. Tipoff is set for 4:00 p.m.
