(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s soccer team (1-1-2, 1-0-1 in ACCAC) picked up its first victory of the season on Tuesday as it played an ACCAC conference game at Chandler-Gilbert Community College (0-3, 0-2).
- The No. 9 ranked Aztecs struck early in the first half and added two insurance goals in the second half in their 3-0 win over the Coyotes.
- Freshman Yajaira Cervantes (Tucson Magnet HS) scored two goals. She put the Aztecs ahead early with a goal in the 6th minute. Sophomore Samantha Mendez (Tucson Magnet HS) won a 50-50 ball and headed it right in Cervantes’ direction. She finished the play with a shot in the box.
The score remained until the 72nd minute when Cervantes made it 2-0 on a putback shot after freshman Ava Dagnino’s (Salpointe Catholic HS) shot on goal attempt was saved. - Sophomore Anjeli DesRosier (Salpointe Catholic HS) helped seal the game as she received a cross-pass from sophomore Kristal Navarro (Tucson Magnet HS) and hit her shot to the left side of the goal post in the 88th minute.
- The Aztecs closed out the game with 17 shots on goal. Sophomore Brooke Valencia (Sabino HS) finished with five saves.
The Aztecs return to the West Campus Aztec Field on Saturday when they host GateWay Community College. Game time is set for 5:45 p.m.
