(Chandler, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (3-1, 1-1 in ACCAC) bounced back in the win column on Tuesday as it played an ACCAC conference contest at Chandler-Gilbert Community College (0-2, 0-2).
- The No. 7 ranked Aztecs scored five goals in the first half and went on to defeat the Coyotes 6-1.
- Freshman Leonel Gutierrez (Salpointe Catholic HS) produced his second hat trick of the season. He has a total of eight goals in four games played so far this season.
Gutierrez put the Aztecs ahead 2-0 as he converted on a shot in the box that got passed the goalkeeper. He netted his second goal with 52 seconds left in the half as he made a spin move and scored with a left-footed shot to make it 5-0 at halftime.
He completed the hat trick with a goal in the 78th minute. - Sophomore Robert Castaneda (Nogales HS) scored a goal and had an assist for the game. He assisted in Gutierrez’s first goal and made it 4-0 when he converted on a penalty kick opportunity in the 43rd minute. It was set up by Gutierrez when he was fouled inside the box.
- Sophomore Joost Hermeling scored the first goal of the game in the 4th minute. Sophomore Joseph Miranda (Walden Grove HS) netted Pima’s third goal in the 36th minute.
- Chandler-Gilbert’s Isaiah Pensis scored in the 50th minute to put the Coyotes on the board.
- The Aztecs finished the game with 18 shots on goal. Freshman Tommaso Leonardi closed it out with one save.
The Aztecs will host their regular season home opener on Saturday against GateWay Community College. The teams are on the pitch at 8:00 p.m.
