(Aliso Viejo, CA)  Park University Gilbert freshman libero Elise Langley was recognized as the Great Southwest Conference Defender of the Week for her performance this past week from September 8-14. This is the Bucs first GSAC conference defender of the week honor since joining the GSAC last season and the first defender of the week honor since Megan Hicks won in October of 2023.

Langley had an outstanding performance in the Bucs five-set win over La Sierra this past Thursday, September 11. Langley posted 30 digs which would have broken the school record of 29 digs in a match, if she had not already obliterated the record two games prior with 42 digs against Florida College on August 30.

Langley has been a record setter this season. She set the record for most digs in an inaugural match with 15 against Oregon Tech. She set the school record with 42 and now is the first player in school history with two or more matches with 30-plus digs.

She is averaging just over 16 digs per match and is on pace to eclipse over 400 digs this season which would be a freshman record and second most in a single season in school history, Langley’s current total is already second most in school history for a freshman.

Langley and the Bucs have two more critical conference matches this week as they take on Arizona Christian (5-5, 2-1 GSAC) and OUAZ (8-1, 3-0) this Friday and Saturday respectively at Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Ariz. The ACU match starts at 6 p.m. Friday, September 19 while the OUAZ match commences at 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 20.
