Justin Chambers and Austin Smith to Represent State 48 in the 2025 Arizona Fall League
(Phoenix, AZ) Major League Baseball has announced the rosters for the 2025 Arizona Fall League (AFL) season, and two players, left-handed pitcher Justin Chambers (Glendale) and right-handed pitcher Austin Smith (Salt River), represent local ties to Arizona.
Chambers, a left-handed pitching prospect of the Los Angeles Dodgers, is a native of Chandler, Arizona. A Basha High School graduate in 2023, Chambers was ranked as the No. 1 left-handed pitching prospect in Arizona and No. 11 in the country that year.
The Milwaukee Brewers drafted Chambers in the 20th round of the 2023 MLB Draft. Now in the Dodgers organization, the southpaw just wrapped up his first season at the full-season Minor League level. With the Single-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, Chambers posted a 2.70 ERA in 20 innings.
Colorado Rockies prospect Austin Smith will pitch this fall for the Salt River Rafters. The right-hander played his final college year at the University of Arizona, making 18 appearances. With the Wildcats, Smith had a 2-1 record and a 5.14 ERA, striking out 25 batters. He pitched a scoreless inning in Arizona’s second game of the 2021 College World Series against Stanford. During his time in Arizona, he earned Pac-12 Spring Academic Honor Roll honors.
The 2025 AFL season begins on Monday, Oct. 6. The AFL returns to Tucson for the first time since 2002 with the Tucson Tripleheader on Saturday, Oct. 11th at Kino Sports Complex. The third-annual Goodyear Ballpark Tripleheader is on Saturday, Oct. 18th, at the Spring Training home of the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Guardians.
The 19th annual AFL Fall Stars Game will be played on Sunday, Nov. 9, preceded by the AFL Home Run Derby on Saturday, November 8. Both events will take place at Sloan Park, the Spring Training home of the Chicago Cubs. The game will air LIVE on MLB Network, MLB.com, and the MLB App.
