Two Sweeps on Saturday for #12 Sand Devils

(Seattle, WA)  Bouncing back from a tough first day at the Pac-12 North Tournament, No. 12 Sun Devil Beach Volleyball swept both duals to wrap up the weekend on Saturday, dominating both Utah and Oregon.

Arizona State improves to 18-6 on the year (5-4 Pac-12), which is the second-best record in program history. ASU now has five dual sweeps this season after winning 5-0 in both matchups today.

Senior Taryn Ames and graduate Lexi Sweeney both moved up in the record book to a tie for fifth for career individual wins, now at 57. On the same list, junior Anya Pemberton and sophomore Adriana Nieves Papaleo moved into a tie for 17th with 27 wins.

Leading the team in individual wins this season are freshmen Ava Williamson and sophomore Arden Besecker, both with a 20-4 record. They are tied for the seventh-most wins in a season in ASU history, the first Sand Devils to reach 20 since 2019. Next in wins are Ames and Sweeney with 16, which is the most in a year Sweeney has had in her career. For Ames, it matches her best win total (16 in 2022).

Game One: #12 ASU 5, Utah 0

The day started off with a sweep over Utah (16-12). Four of the five courts won in straight sets. The twos Besecker and Anya Pemberton battled back in their match to win in three sets. On court five, Ava Haughy and Nieves Papaleo had a wild first set, winning 30-28 before dominating 21-10 in the second. That first set is tied for the third-longest set in ASU history.

Game Two: #12 ASU 5, Oregon 0

Arizona State got its second-straight sweep by taking care of business against Oregon (3-17). All five courts won in straight sets and there were three sets that were won by more than 10 points.
