Broden Cahoon (Decathlon) and Abraham Valenzuela (10,000 meters) earn second place at Region I Multi’s Championships

(Mesa, AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s track & field team began postseason competition on Monday and Tuesday at the Region I Multi’s Championships held at Mesa Community College.

The Aztecs are in first place with 33 points. Central Arizona College and Mesa Community college are tied for second place with 22 points. The points carry over to the Region I Championships on April 30 and May 2.

The Aztecs picked up 18 points in the Decathlon. Sophomore Broden Cahoon was the top Pima finisher as he took second place with 6373 points earning eight team points. Cahoon’s total put him at No. 7 in the Pima school history.

Sophomore Jacob Acedo (Gila Ridge HS) finished in fourth place with 5266, giving Pima five points. Sophomore Daniel Parrish (Marana HS) earned sixth place with 4095 points gaining three points. Sophomore Dillon Arvayo (Mountain View HS) picked up two points after he closed it out in seventh place with 2673 points.

Pima added 15 points in the 10,000-meter race. Sophomore Abraham Valenzuela (Palo Verde HS) crossed the finish line in second place and earned an NJCAA national qualifying time of 32 minutes, 30.78 seconds. He secured eight team points.

Freshman Elijah Conroy (Rincon/University HS) finished in fifth place with a time of 33:47.65 as he picked up four team points. Freshman Evan Rasoumoff (Catalina Foothills HS) took sixth at 35:46.34. He tacked on another three team points.

The Aztecs will compete at the Region I Championships on Tuesday, April 30 and Thursday, May 2 at Mesa Community College. Competition begins at 3:00 p.m. on both days.
