Aztecs Women’s Track & Field finish with 17 points after Region I Multi’s Championships

(Mesa, AZ)  The Pima Community College women’s track & field team began postseason competition on Monday and Tuesday at the Region I Multi’s Championships held at Mesa Community College.

The Aztecs sit in third place with 17 points. Central Arizona College is in first place with 28 points and Mesa Community College sits in second with 26 points. The points carry over to the Region I Championships on April 30 and May 2.

The Aztecs picked up 10 points in the Heptathlon. Freshman Maylee Thompson (Willcox HS) was the top Pima finisher as she took fourth place with 4081 points earning five team points.

Freshman April Necaise gained three points for the Aztecs as she finished in sixth place with 3537 points. Freshman Tyler Washington was seventh in the Heptathlon with 3317 points. She picked up two team points.

Pima added seven points with their finishes in the 10,000-meter race. Freshman Mariah Cruz (Mountain View HS) closed out the race in fifth place with a time of 46 minutes, 26.09 seconds, picking up four team points.

Freshman Sara Bredenkamp (Kingman Academy) was seventh with a time of 47:23.68 as she secured two points while freshman Linda Rivero (Desert View HS) finished in eighth place at 48:23.47. She earned one point.

The Aztecs will compete at the Region I Championships on Tuesday, April 30 and Thursday, May 2 at Mesa Community College. Competition begins at 3:00 p.m. on both days.
