Zepeda hits two homers with eight RBIs, Waddell throws shutout as Softball sweeps Eastern AZ for 10th straight win

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College softball team (19-8, 6-2 in ACCAC) picked up a big ACCAC sweep on Saturday, handing Eastern Arizona College (13-7, 8-2) their first two

conference losses of the season and picking up their 10th straight win in the process.

Sophomore Camilla Zepeda (Tucson Magnet HS) finished the day 4 for 6 with eight RBIs and two runs scored. Freshman Talia Martin (Mountain View HS) finished the day 3 for 6 with an RBI, three runs scored and two walks. Sophomore Alexis Tsosie-Hood and freshman Jazmyne Waddell (San Manuel HS) combined to pitch 12 innings, giving up one run (one earned) on eight hits with 10 strikeouts and two walks.

Game 1: Pima Aztecs 10, Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters 1 (5 innings)

The Aztecs handed the Gila Monsters their first ACCAC conference loss as the Pima offense got going in the early innings to earn the run-rule victory.
Martin reached on an error and freshman Aubrey Marx (Cienega HS) hit a single to start the game. Zepeda hit her first home run on an 0-1 count as she went straight to center field to put the Aztecs up 3-0. Waddell followed with a solo homer of her own to make it 4-0.

Freshman Alyssa Noriega (Pueblo HS) capped off the 1st inning with an RBI double to bring around sophomore Alexis Tsosie-Hood.
It was déjà vu in the 2nd inning as Martin and Marx reached base and Zepeda hit her second 3-run home run; this time going to left field on a 1-1 count to put the score at 8-0. Sophomore Mallory Zylinski-Wrobel added to Pima’s lead with an RBI double to drive in sophomore Mina Chacon (Tucson Magnet HS).
The top three hitters in the lineup: Martin, Marx and Zepeda, combined to go 7 for 9 with seven RBIs and seven runs scored. Zepeda hit an RBI single in the 3rd inning as she finished the game 3 for 3 with seven RBIs and two runs scored. Martin went 2 for 3 with three runs while Marx was 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Waddell finished 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run. Noriega went 1 for 3 with an RBI and Zylinski-Wrobel was 1 for 2 with an RBI.
Tsosie-Hood finished 1 for 3 with an RBI but also pitched all five innings, giving up one run (one earned) on three hits with three strikeouts on 46 pitches.

Game 2: Pima Aztecs 3, Eastern Arizona College Gila Monsters 0

Waddell tossed a complete-game shutout as she gave up five hits with seven strikeouts and two walks on 87 pitches.
The Aztecs got on the board in the 2nd inning when Martin hit an RBI single to score Noriega, who led off the inning with a single.
Zepeda led off the 3rd inning with a single and scored on a stolen base to home plate to put the score at 2-0.

Freshman Yanelyssia Chavez (Salpointe Catholic HS) produced her RBI single in the 5thinning as she scored freshman Marina Price (Rincon/University HS).

Martin finished the game 1 for 3 with an RBI while Zepeda went 1 for 3 with an RBI. Price was 1 for 2 with two runs scored and Chavez finished 1 for 1 with an RBI.
