Martin has four RBIs and four runs, Tsosie-Hood and Waddell toss shutouts as Softball blanks Chandler-Gilbert

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College softball team (23-8, 10-2 in ACCAC) picked up its 14th straight win on Tuesday in an ACCAC doubleheader sweep over Chandler-Gilbert Community College (11-12, 7-10).
The Aztecs secured two run-rule victories as they outscored the Coyotes 20-0. Freshman Talia Martin (Mountain View HS) finished the day going 4 for 7 with four RBIs and four runs scored. Freshman Aubrey Marx (Cienega HS) also closed out the day at 4 for 7 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Sophomore Camila Zepeda (Tucson HS) was also 4 for 7 with two RBIs and four runs. Freshman Natalya Rivera (Sunnyside HS) went 4 for 5 with an RBI and three runs.

Game 1: Pima Aztecs 12, Chandler-Gilbert Coyotes 0 (5 innings)

W – Tsosie-Hood. 2B: Rivera, Martin. HR: Waddell, Martin. SB: Zepeda 2, Martin.

The Aztecs took control early on offense with three runs in each the 1st and 2nd innings and five runs in the 3rd.
Sophomore Alexis Tsosie-Hood threw her second straight complete-game shutout as she pitched five innings, giving up three hits with five strikeouts on 62 pitches. She has given up just one run in her last three starts.

Freshman Jazmyne Waddell (San Manuel HS) capped off a three-run 1st inning as she hit a two-run home run, scoring Zepeda, who hit an RBI single in the previous at-bat.

Martin hit her own two-run homer in the 2nd inning while Waddell drilled an RBI single to score Marx to make it 6-0.

The Aztecs got RBI hits from Rivera, Martin and Marx in the 3rd inning. Waddell drove in another two runs with an RBI single.

The trio of Waddell, Martin and Rivera combined to go 10 for 10 with 10 RBIs and six runs scored. Waddell finished the game going 3 for 3 with five RBIs and a run scored while Martin was 4 for 4 with four RBIs and three runs scored. Rivera was 3 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Marx and Zepeda each went 2 for 4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

Game 2: Pima Aztecs 7, Chandler-Gilbert Coyotes 0 (5 innings)

W – Waddell. 2B: Zepeda, Chacon. HR: Zylinski-Wrobel. SB: Lopez.

Waddell produced a gem, this time in the circle as she pitched a five-inning complete game, giving up six hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

The Aztecs got on the board with three runs in the 1st inning. Sophomore Mina Chacon (Tucson HS) hit an RBI double, which was followed by freshman Alyssa Noriega’s (Pueblo HS) two-run RBI single to plate Waddell and Chacon.

Chacon knocked in her second run of the game with an RBI single in the 3rd inning to give Pima a 4-0 lead.
The Aztecs scored two runs in each the 4th and 5th innings. Marx hit an RBI single, and Zepeda followed with a sacrifice-fly RBI to bring around Rivera and Martin respectively.
Sophomore Mallory Zylinski-Wrobel (Sahuarita HS) closed out the game with a walk-off two run homer in the 5th to score pinch runner Gabriella Salazar (Marana HS).
Chacon finished the game 2 for 3 with two RBIs while Zepeda was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Marx finished 2 for 3 with an RBI. Noriega and Zylinski-Wrobel each had two RBIs and Martin, Waddell and Rivera each scored a run.

The Aztecs are in the midst of four straight home doubleheaders at the West Campus Aztec Field. They will host GateWay Community College on Saturday in an ACCAC conference doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m.
