(Mesa, AZ)  The Park University Gilbert baseball team got back on the winning track with a 14-5 non-conference win over SAGU-AIC this evening at the Arizona Athletic Grounds in Mesa, Ariz. The Bucs get back on the positive side of .500 upping its record to 15-14.

The game had a shaky start as SAGU jumped out in front 4-0 in the first inning after Bucs starter Aidan Guthrey struggled with his control, walking two batters and allowing a seeing eye single, before surrendering a grand slam home run.

The Bucs would get two of those runs back in the bottom half of the innings as Connor Hommes hit his first home run of the season, a two-run blast to cut the lead in half.

Guthrey would settle down and hold the Warriors scoreless for the next two innings and set the stage for an outpouring of runs in the third for the Bucs.

Park Gilbert would put six runs on the board in the third to give the Bucs a four-run lead and a bevy of Buc relievers would hold the Warriors to only one run the remainder of the game as the Bucs would cruise home with a nine run victory.

Diego Bellozo Pacheco (1-0) would get credit for his first career win as he threw a 1-2-3 sixth. The only 1-2-3 inning by a Buc reliever on the evening. As a group, the Buccaneer relievers threw the final six innings allowing only four hits and three walks while striking out six.

At the plate, Park Gilbert pounded out 12 hits and were also the beneficiary of 15 walks. Diego Bejarano had three hits, Connor Hommes and Gio Jasso had two hits and three RBI, Issac Echiveste had two hits and two RBI. Jasso was making his first start of the season.

Park Gilbert now returns to California Pacific Conference action as they travel to Riverside, Calif., to take on La Sierra in a four-game series. The first three games will count towards conference standings and the final game will be a seven-inning non-conference contest. The first two games of the series will be played on Friday, March 22 starting at 11 a.m. The final two games will be played on Sunday, March 24, again the first game will commence at 11 a.m.
