Acosta averages a double-double to earn ACCAC Division II Player of the Week

(Tucson, AZ)  Pima Community College women’s basketball player Dominique Acosta (Nogales HS) helped the Aztecs take two of their three games against NJCAA Division I opponents last week.

Acosta, a sophomore forward, was named ACCAC Division II Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 25-31.

Acosta had three straight double-doubles in points and rebounds during the Aztec Holiday Classic as Pima beat Bismarck State College (89-40) and South Plains College (64-61) but dropped a close game to Eastern Wyoming College (79-75).

Acosta averaged 16.3 points, 12.0 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. She shot 45 percent from the field and grabbed 13 offensive rebounds.

She has played in all 13 games; making 11 starts in the front court. She is averaging 14.1 points, 8.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game.

The Aztecs get back to ACCAC conference play on Wednesday at Scottsdale Community College. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
