Kyleigh Oliver nets two goals but Aztecs Women’s Soccer falls at Eastern Arizona College

(Thatcher, AZ)  The Pima Community College women’s soccer team (6-6-2, 5-4-2 in ACCAC) hit the road to play at Eastern Arizona College (10-3-3, 8-2-1) on Saturday in Thatcher.

The Aztecs struck first but surrendered three straight goals as they fell to the Gila Monsters 4-2. This is Eastern Arizona College’s first season with men’s and women’s soccer programs.

Sophomore Kyleigh Oliver (Salpointe Catholic HS) put the Aztecs on the scoreboard in the 14th minute with a shot that was assisted by fellow sophomore Samantha Michel (Walden Grove HS).

Down 3-1, Oliver netted her second goal of the game in the 53rd minute with an assist from freshman Solaris Graves (Ironwood Ridge HS) to keep the Aztecs alive early in the second half. The Gila Monsters scored seven minutes later to make it a two-goal deficit once again.

Celiane Pereira scored two goals and Maria Antonia Coelho had a goal and an assist for the Gila Monsters.

The Aztecs got outshot 19-8 for the game. Sophomore Adriana Pacheco (Cienega HS) finished with four saves in the first half. Freshman Jasmin Delgado (Salpointe Catholic HS) played the second half and had 10 saves.

The Aztecs close out the regular season on Tuesday when they host South Mountain Community College at the West Campus Aztec Field. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m.
