(Boulder Creek, NV)  Behind strong rounds from the “Joshes” Jack and Smith, the Park University Gilbert men’s golf team moved into third place at the California Pacific Conference Golf Championships at the Boulder Creek Golf Course in Boulder Creek, Nev. The Buccaneer women only played with three players so they did not post a team score, but Taylor Gransen still sits in ninth place after two rounds with a chance to garner all-Conference honors.

On the men’s side, the Buccaneers were 10 shots better than they were yesterday, shooting 311 for a 632 total. This faulted them into third place, four shots ahead of Providence Christian and Simpson. This also puts them in the final grouping with Embry Riddle and Benedictine Mesa tomorrow.

No. 5 flight golfer Josh Jack set the pace on the scoreboard and on the clock as he shot a career best four-over 76. Starting the round with the first threesome off the tee, Jack and his playing partners completed the round in three hours and 58 minutes which was a full two and a half hours shorter than the time it took for most of the men to complete the round one. Jack posted one birdie and 12 pars on his round.

Josh Smith, who shot the best round of the day for the Buccaneers yesterday, did the same today, improving his score by four shots to a three-over 75. This faulted him into ninth place which puts him within three shots of qualifying for first team all-conference honors if He can finish tied for fifth or better on the final leaderboard. Smith posted two birdies and 11 pars.

The rest of the team stayed consistent in the unfavorable windy conditions as Max Callermanand Noah Blaickner shot 80 and 81 for the second straight round. Gunnar Hurt improved by a shot, shooting 80 after an 81 yesterday. Every single Buc either tied or improved upon their score in round two.

On the ladies side, Taylor Gransen improved her second round score by a stroke as she shot 85 in a round which saw her par five of the last six holes coming in. Grace Soto and Sammie Quilterstruggled with the windy conditions in the afternoon. But they both still sit in the top-20 with Quilter in a tie for 14th and Soto in solo 16th.

The final round will commence at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow with a shot gun start. Park Gilbert will be paired with Embry Riddle and Benedictine Mesa for the round. The Buccaneers have finished in third place in the tournament the last two season and will look to improve upon this with a solid final round.
