(Mesa, AZ)  The Park University Gilbert volleyball team (18-8, 11-4) picked up its first ever win over La Sierra University 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-15) Saturday night at Bell Bank Park in Mesa, Ariz.). The Buccaneers had lost two road contests to the Eagles over the last two seasons, but finally got into the win column on home soil. With the win, Park Gilbert has now defeated every school in the Cal Pac.

Park Gilbert lost in four sets earlier this season. In that match, the Buccaneers committed 20 attack errors and 19 service errors. Tonight, they turned those numbers on its head with only nine attack errors and only four service errors, 26 fewer errors then in the last matchup.

The Buccaneers jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never trailed in the first set, building as much as a seven-point advantage before settling on a six-point win. They hit .357 with only two errors and 12 kills.

In the second set was tighter throughout, but the Bucs used a 4-0 run at 16-all to take control of the set and saunter home to another six-point win.

In the third set, LSU jumped out to a 5-4 lead, but an 15-1 run by the Bucs salted the match away as the Eagles were never able to put a finger in the dam to slow down the Buccaneer onslaught.

All five of the Buccaneer hitting starters had five kills or more led by Amanda Jonovichwith nine kills and followed by freshman Railey Druxmanwith eight with zero errors. She also had 12 digs. The other freshman starter Mallory Turner also did not commit an attack error with five kills, while Miranda Baconand Makenna Busseeach had six kills. Annika Wallaceand Jenifer Lauercombined for 33 assists, while Hattie Pattonled all players with 16 digs.

With the win, the Bucs own the longest current winning streak in the conference at four matches and reduce its magic number for qualification into the Cal Pac Tournament to one game. So far Westcliff, Benedictine Mesa and Saint Katherine have qualified. Saint Katherine is just a half game ahead of Park Gilbert in the standings because they played and won three matches this week, while the Buccaneers only had two matches this week.

Next week, the Bucs have three home matches against the northern California schools. The Buccaneers swept all three matches last month at Pacific Union, UC Merced and Simpson. The Bucs start against UC Merced on Thursday, October 27 at 7 p.m. at Bell Bank Park.
