(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College volleyball team (3-8) completed play at the College of Southern Nevada Tournament on Saturday in Las Vegas.
The Aztecs went 0-3 as they faced off against three Division I teams; two who were nationally ranked. Sophomore Isabella Jacome finished with 87 assists in the three matches played.
Saturday:
(15) Seward County CC Saints 3, Pima CC Aztecs 0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-14): Sophomore Deanna Almaguer and freshman Sasha Ross (Canyon del Oro HS) each finished with six kills while Jacome posted 13 assists, five digs and one ace. Freshman Laney Morris (Thatcher HS) had eight assists and six digs.
Friday:
(5) Parkland College Cobras 3, Pima CC Aztecs 0 (25-22, 25-15, 25-14): Sophomore Jessica Bright-Schade (Safford HS) had a team-high 13 kills to go along with seven digs. Jacome closed out the match with 27 assists while sophomore Haley Duncan (Walden Grove HS) finished with seven kills and three blocks.
College of Southern Nevada Coyotes 3, Pima CC Aztecs 2 (25-22, 22-25, 17-25, 27-25, 15-12): The Aztecs took a 2-1 lead in the match but dropped a tough fourth set and eventually lost in the tie-breaker.
Bright-Schade finished with a double-double of 15 kills and 11 digs. Almaguer had a strong match as she reached double figures with 13 kills to go along with four blocks. Ross posted nine kills and three blocks.
Jacome had 47 assists and four aces. Freshman Morgan Hains (Canyon del Oro HS) closed out the match with 19 digs.
The Aztecs return to ACCAC Division II competition on Wednesday when they play at Mesa Community College. First volley is at 7:00 p.m.
