Two Sugar Skulls players named Co-Special Teams Player of the Week

(Tucson, AZ)   The Indoor Football League announced that Tucson’s Tony Winslow and Jovon White were named co-special teams player of the week.

In last week’s thrilling win against the Gladiators, Tony Winslow blocked an extra point attempt that was scooped and returned for 48 yards by Jovon White to secure the last-second victory for the Sugar Skulls.DB Jovon White also had four tackles on the evening to go with his electric game-winning return. DL Tony Winslow had two tackles (0.5 for loss) along with his game-altering blocked kick that led to the White return.

“Well, it was certainly the special teams PLAY of the week, possibly of the year. Duke City visiting Tucson. Duke City had just scored with :05 seconds remaining in the game to go ahead 41-40. Game over, right? Not if you ask Tony Winslow. As Duke city was attempting the PAT, Winslow plowed through the middle of the line to get a hand on the kick. The ball bounced to the two-yard line where Jovon White picked it up. He was surrounded by Gladiators but somehow managed to escape and return the PAT for a 48-yard score to give Tucson the 42-41 victory.”

The Tucson Sugar Skulls will host the Arizona Rattlers this Saturday at the Boneyard. All tickets are $15 for a special Mother’s Day promotion.
