(Mesa, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s and women’s cross country teams competed in the ACCAC Conference Championships on Saturday at Mesa Community College.
The women’s team tied for 4th place with Glendale Community College with a total of 120 points. The men’s team placed fifth with 129 points.
Sophomore Iriana Sanchez (Cienega HS) earned All-ACCAC Conference Honorable Mention after she took 21st place in the 5K race (3.1 miles) with a time of 21 minutes, 27.2 seconds.
Sophomore Rainbow Hoss (Mountain View HS) finished 24th with a time of 21:41.4 while freshman Janae Quihuis (Nogales HS) placed 25th at 21:48.7. Freshman Carolina Vega-Picos (Desert View HS) was 31st with a time of 24:52.5 and freshman Alysa Canez (Canyon del Oro HS) took 34th place at 26:25.0
Sophomore Juan Miranda (Flowing Wells HS) was the top finisher for the men’s team as he took 24th place finishing the 8K race (4.97 miles) with a time of 28:46.8.
Sophomore Aaron Espinoza (Sunnyside HS) finished in 26th place with a time of 28:56.7 while freshman Alex Corrales (Nogales HS) placed 27th at 29:03.6. Freshman Zach Zobak took 36th place at 30:38.0 and freshman Brandon Moreno was 38th at 32:23.7.
The Aztecs will return to Mesa Community College next Saturday, Oct. 5 for the Mesa Thunderbird Classic. The men’s race will be at 8:30 a.m. and the women’s race will follow at 9:05 a.m.
