(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College baseball team (36-19, 22-16 in ACCAC) had a rough outing on Saturday at South Mountain Community College (38-18, 25-13) to close the 2019 season.
The Aztecs made up the rest of their game with the Cougars from Feb. 19 when the game was called due to darkness. It stood at 2-2 after 10 innings. Attached is the press release with the updated final:
(Game continued from Feb. 19): South Mountain CC 3, Pima CC Aztecs 2 (12 innings): The Aztecs left two runners on base in the 11th inning while the Cougars scored on a two-out RBI single. The Aztecs went down in order in the bottom of the 12th.
Porchas drew a walk with two outs in the 10th inning. Sophomore Richard Ware came in to pinch run as he stole second base and advanced to third base on an error. Sophomore Jacob Jacome struck out to end the inning.
Porchas put the Aztecs on the board with a solo home run in the 2nd inning. Down 2-1, the Aztecs tied the game in the 5th when freshman Stockton Pringle (Sahuaro HS) hit into a fielder’s choice to score Cummings.
Porchas finished 3 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored while Cummings was 4 for 5 with a run scored.
Sophomore Adam Moraga (Sunnyside HS) took the loss after he pitched the final two innings giving up one run (one earned) on two hits with one strikeout and two walks. Sophomore Conner Nantkes threw seven innings giving up two runs (one earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts and two walks. Sophomore Austin Bryan (Sahuarita HS) threw one inning with one strikeout and one walk.
Sophomore Hayden Udall (Campo Verde HS) pitched the 9th and 10th innings with two strikeouts.

Here are the results from Saturday’s scheduled doubleheader:
Game 1: South Mountain CC Cougars 7, Pima CC Aztecs 1
The Cougars offense got going in the first two innings and the Aztecs were stifled on offense.
The Cougars scored three runs in each the 1st and 2nd innings.
The Aztecs got on the scoreboard in the 4th inning. Freshman Cole Cummings led off with a double and tagged up to third after freshman JJ Rollon (Skyline HS) lined out to right field. Cummings scored after sophomore Phillip Sikes hit a sacrifice-fly RBI.
The Aztecs finished with five hits for the game. Cummings was 2 for 3 with a run scored and a double. Rollon was 1 for 3 while freshman Angel Ochoa (Canyon del Oro HS) went 1 for 2 and sophomore Garett Lake went 1 for 1.
Sophomore Austin Bryan (Sahuarita HS) took the loss (10-3) as he pitched one and one-third innings giving up six runs (six earned) on six hits with no strikeouts.

Game 2: South Mountain CC Cougars 6, Pima CC Aztecs 0: The Aztecs were held to two hits for the game.
Down 2-0 in the top of the 4th inning, Cummings led off with a single. Sophomore Rafael Padilla (Nogales HS) drew a walk with two outs but a strikeout ended the threat.
Cummings went 1 for 4 while sophomore Enrique Porchas (Kofa HS) was 1 for 3. Padilla and Ochoa drew walks in the game.
Sophomore Hayden Udall (Campo Verde HS) took the loss (7-4) as he pitched five innings giving up six runs (four earned) on seven hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Freshman Angel Castillo (Sunnyside HS) pitched the final three innings giving up two hits with three strikeouts.

The Aztecs close out their season with 36 wins; the most overall wins in a season since 1993 when Roger Werbylo was the head coach. The Aztecs also finished with a 22-16 record in ACCAC conference play; the most since 2014. They had identical 11-29 conference records in the previous two seasons.
