(Tucson, AZ)  Pima Community College football player Jake Smith (Desert Ridge HS) made the biggest play of the Aztecs’ season on Saturday and the WSFL took notice.

Smith, a sophomore defensive end, was named WSFL Special Teams Player of the Week on Tuesday.

He had one tackle and he blocked the potential go-ahead field goal with one second left in Pima’s 28-26 win over No. 9 Eastern Arizona College last Saturday in the program’s final home game.

Smith is the fifth Pima player to be selected WSFL Player of the Week. Defensive back Derik Hall (Defensive), quarterback Brooks Ringer (Offensive), kicker Jaime Avila (Special Teams) and slot receiver/return specialist Diamante Burton (Special Teams) have all received the honor.

The No. 11 ranked Aztecs (6-1, 4-0 in WSFL) will head to Ephraim, UT to play No. 8 Snow College (7-1, 4-1) on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. A win would secure the WSFL conference title for the Aztecs.
