Aztecs women’s basketball Nakai named NJCAA All-American

Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College women’s basketball program will add another name to the rafters as the Aztecs were represented in the NJCAA All-Americans list on Wednesday.

Freshman Jacqulynn Nakai (Coconino HS) was selected first team NJCAA Division II All-American. She is the seventh All-American for coach Todd Holthaus and eighth in program history. She joins Sydni Stallworth (2016, 2017), Raja Moreno-Ross (2016), A’jha Edwards (2013), Deanna Daniels (2011), Tia Morrison (2009, 2010), Abyee Maracigan (2009, 2010), Jessie Ingraham (2008) and Latrina Bennett (1994).

 

Nakai was the first Pima women’s basketball player to be selected to the 2018 WBCA Two-Year College Coaches’ All-American list. She was named ACCAC Division II Player of the Year as well as first team All-ACCAC and first team All-Region I, Division II. She also earned ACCAC Division II Player of the Week on four occasions this season.

Nakai played and started all 32 games as she led the Aztecs in scoring at 17.3 points per game. She led the ACCAC conference with 6.7 assists per game. Nakai averaged almost 40 percent from three-point range and shot 78.5 percent from the free throw line. She also averaged 4.8 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game.

The Aztecs finished the season with a 23-9 overall record and were 16-6 in ACCAC conference play for the second straight year. The Aztecs advanced to the Region I, Division II final for the ninth time in the last 10 years.
