Aztecs men’s basketball break Pima school record in wins after downing Central Arizona

Tucson, AZ – The Pima Community College men’s basketball team (25-3, 17-3 in ACCAC) got back on the winning track on Wednesday at Central Arizona College (11-16, 7-13) to earn a milestone victory for the program.

The No. 8 ranked Aztecs defeated the Vaqueros 84-70 to set a new Pima school record with their 25th victory on the season. The previous record was set when the Aztecs went 24-7 in the 1989-90 season.

The Aztecs trailed 39-32 at halftime and outscored Vaqueros 52-31 for the second half. The win came one game after Pima’s 10-game winning streak was snapped by Phoenix College last Saturday.

Sophomore Isaiah Murphy (Cienega HS) finished with a double-double of 31 points and 12 rebounds. Sophomore Alize Travis had 18 points, five assists, five rebounds and four steals.

The Aztecs swept the regular season meetings with the Vaqueros winning 128-82 last month at the West Campus Gym.

The Aztecs will host their final regular season home game on Saturday against Mesa Community College at 4:00 p.m.

The Aztecs are one-game behind Phoenix College for the No. 1 seed at the Region I, Division II tournament with two games left.
