(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s soccer team faced a tough battle on the road on Tuesday in the NJCAA Region I, Division I quarterfinals game.
The No. 5 seeded Aztecs fell to No. 4 Arizona Western College 1-0. Arizona Western (11-4-3) player Tyra McKenzie broke the scoreless tie with a goal in the 77th minute with a shot from 35 yards out.
The Aztecs had an advantage for much of the game as an Arizona Western player received a red card in the 5th minute. Both teams were in a stalemate in the first half as they put on a defensive clinic.
The Aztecs were in attack mode for the last 20 minutes of the second half but couldn’t secure a goal. A pair of shots went wide from the goal post in the final 1:23 of the game.
The Aztecs finished with four shots on goal for the game. Sophomore goalkeeper Jorie Paul (Cienega HS) finished the game with four saves.
The Aztecs close out the 2019 season with a 9-7-1 overall record. The Aztecs put together a seven-game winning streak but down the stretch went 0-4-1 in their final five games. The Aztecs outscored their opponents 52-21 this season.
