Bucs Lead After Day Two at Park-Gilbert Shootout

(Chandler, AZ)  The Park University Gilbert golf team completed its second of three rounds at the Fall Park-Gilbert Shootout, Thursday morning at Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz.

After trailing by two-strokes to Benedictine University Mesa after round one on Thursday morning, the Buccaneers bounced back and shot two-over-par as a team (290). The Bucs now sit in first place at the Park-Gilbert Shootout, holding a two-stroke lead against Benedictine Mesa who shot 12-over-par as a team in round two. Tuesday’s round of 18 was played on the Devils Claw course at Whirlwind GC.

Buccaneer seniors Jax Sisson and Riley Wortman both led the Bucs with a 71, finishing in a first with Benedictine Mesa’s Nathan Giles in Tuesday’s round of 18 shooting one-under-par. Sisson and Wortman remain in a tie for second in the Park-Gilbert shootout, trailing Giles by two strokes heading into the final day of competition.

Wortman had a strong front nine, birdieing a pair of par fives (3 & 6) and a pair of par fours (5 & 8) to finish with a 33. Sisson came alive on the back nine as he posted four birdies, three pars, and two bogeys to finish with a 34.

After shooting a 75 on Tuesday morning, Carson Andel remains in a tie for ninth place overall in the Park-Gilbert Shootout.

The Buccaneers head to Las Colinas Golf Club Friday morning to wrap up the Park-Gilbert shootout in Queen Creek, Ariz., with the tee times starting at 11 a.m. MST. Round three will be live streamed on the GSAC Sports Network, and the link to watch can be found on the Park-Gilbert golf schedule page.
