(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College softball team (30-5) stepped away from ACCAC conference play on Saturday for a doubleheader against Monroe University (NJCAA Division I).
The No. 12 ranked Aztecs (Division II) picked up the sweep over the Mustangs. Freshman Izabel Rodriguez (Sahuarita HS) closed out the day going 5-for-6 with three RBIs, three runs scored and two steals while fellow freshman Kayla Hendrix (Canyon del Oro HS) finished 2-for-6 with four RBIs and two runs.
Freshman Adriana Machado (Canyon del Oro HS) and sophomore Belen Camacho (Pueblo HS) picked up the wins in the circle.
Game 1: (12) Pima Aztecs 10, Monroe University Mustangs 0 (F/5)
The Aztecs went on a tear with eight runs in the 3rd inning and two runs in the 4th inning to take control.
Machado dominated in the circle as she pitched all five innings, giving up four hits with three strikeouts on 59 pitches for her 11th win of the season.
Freshman Angelina Dehler (Empire HS) hit a two-run RBI single to right field, bringing in freshman Isabel Mendoza (Cienega HS) and freshman Soleil Ponce (Sunnyside HS) as Pima took a 7-0 lead in the 3rd inning. Dehler scored the final run in the inning on a Hendrix’s RBI single. Rodriguez, sophomore Julissa Lopez (Tucson Magnet HS), sophomore Jiselle Nunez (Tucson Magnet HS), Menodza and Hendrix all had RBI hits in the inning.
Dehler produced another two-run RBI hit as she doubled to center field and scored Lopez and Mendoza in the 4thinning.
Rodriguez finished the game going 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Dehler went 2-for-3 with four RBIs and a run. Lopez and Mendoza each finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Nunez was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run while Hendrix finished 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run.

Game 2: (12) Pima Aztecs 7, Monroe University Mustangs 4
The Aztecs broke open a tie game in the bottom of the 6th inning to help complete the sweep.
The Aztecs took a 4-0 lead, but the Mustangs rallied off four straight runs to tie the game.
Pima got their 6th inning rally started with two outs. Freshman Tayah Lyons and Aaliyah Pereda (Mountain View HS) hit back-to-back singles. Hendrix drove them both in with a two-run RBI triple to center field. Hendrix scored on Rodriguez’s RBI single to cap off the three-run inning.
The Aztecs scored two runs in each the 1st and 2nd innings. Nunez hit an RBI single in the 1st. Rodriguez and sophomore Clarissa Figueroa (Mountain View HS) had RBI hits in the 2nd inning.
Rodriguez closed out the game going 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Hendrix went 1-for-4 with three RBIs and a run. Pereda was 2-for-3 with two runs while Figueroa finished 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run. Nunez closed it out going 1-for-2 with an RBI and Lyons went 1-for-3 with a run.
Camacho picked up the win in relief as she pitched two innings with four strikeouts.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Aztec Field on Tuesday when they host Phoenix College in an ACCAC conference doubleheader. The first game starts at 12:00 p.m.
