(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College softball team (21-4, 15-3 in ACCAC) returned to the West Campus Aztec Field on Tuesday for an ACCAC conference doubleheader against Glendale Community College (8-13, 8-12).
The No. 13 ranked Aztecs picked up a sweep, but was forced to rally in the second game. Sophomore Jiselle Nunez (Tucson Magnet HS) closed out the day going 2-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs while fellow sophomore Clarissa Figueroa (Mountain View HS) finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and four runs scored.
Freshman Adriana Machado (Canyon del Oro HS) and sophomore Belen Camacho (Pueblo HS) picked up the wins in the circle.
Game 1: (13) Pima Aztecs 9, Glendale Gauchos 0 (F/5)
The Aztecs scored all their runs in the first three innings to pick up the run-rule win.
The Aztecs took advantage of six walks in the 1st inning and scored two runs on passed balls. Freshman Izabel Rodriguez (Sahuarita HS) hit an RBI single to cap off the inning bringing in fellow freshman Soleil Ponce (Sunnyside HS) as Pima took a 4-0 lead.
Ponce hit a two-run RBI double in the 2nd inning to drive in Figueroa and Nunez. Sophomore Amerika Lopez-Bedoy (Sunnyside HS) followed with a sacrifice-fly RBI to score freshman Isabel Mendoza (Cienega HS) to make it 7-0.
Freshman Alyssa Aguirre (Sabino HS) hit a lead-off single in the 3rd inning and was brought in by Figueroa’s RBI triple. Sophomore Julissa Lopez (Tucson Magnet HS) hit a sacrifice-fly RBI to plate Figueroa.
Figueroa finished the game 2-for-2 with an RBI and three runs scored while Nunez went 1-for-2 with two runs. Ponce delivered going 1-for-2 with two RBIs and a run. Aguirre was 2-for-2 with two runs and Rodriguez finished 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Machado got the win as she pitched four innings, giving up five hits with six strikeouts and one walk.

Game 2: (13) Pima Aztecs 3, Glendale Gauchos 2
The Aztecs trailed for much of the game but one swing of the bat from Nunez turned the tide for good.
The Aztecs were behind 2-1 after Glendale scored in the top of the 6th inning. The Aztecs responded in the bottom half of the 6th. Figueroa led off with a walk, and with one out, Nunez stepped up and drove the first pitch she saw as it barely cleared the center field fence for the two-run homer.
The Gauchos took a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning. Freshman Angelina Dehler (Empire HS) tied the game at 1-1 with two outs on her RBI double that scored Mendoza in the 4th inning.
The Aztecs managed two hits for the game. Nunez finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run while Dehler was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Mendoza scored a run and drew two walks while Figueroa finished with a run and a walk.
Camacho picked up the win in a relief appearance as she pitched two innings, giving up three hits with five strikeouts on 38 pitches. Sophomore Sariah Ferrentino (Sabino HS) pitched five innings, giving up two runs (two earned) on four hits with one strikeout and four walks on 81 pitches.
