(Phoenix, AZ) The Pima Community College softball team (12-1, 7-1 in ACCAC) suffered its first blemish of the 2026 season on Saturday at South Mountain Community College (5-6, 4-4).
The No. 6 ranked Aztecs scored 21 runs in the first game but were held to two runs and three hits in the second game.
Freshman Alyssa Aguirre (Sabino HS) closed out the day going 5-for-6 with three RBIs and four runs while fellow freshman Angelina Dehler (Empire HS) finished 3-for-6 with two RBIs and three runs. Freshman Adriana Machado (Canyon del Oro HS) picked up the win in the first game and sophomore Sariah Ferrentino (Sabino HS) took the loss in the second game.

Game 1: (6) Pima Aztecs 21, South Mountain Cougars 10 (5 innings)
There were four lead changes in the first two innings, and the Aztecs took the lead for good with 14 runs scored in the 4th inning.
The Aztecs trailed 7-5 heading into the 4th inning. Sophomore Clarissa Figueroa (Mountain View HS) hit a sacrifice-fly RBI to bring in Aguirre to cut into the deficit. Sophomore Julissa Lopez (Tucson Magnet HS) put the Aztecs up for good when she hit a three-run homer to left field to score freshman Izabel Rodriguez (Sahuarita HS) and sophomore Amerika Lopez-Bedoy (Sunnyside HS) to put Pima ahead 9-7.
Lopez, freshman Isabel Mendoza (Cienega HS), freshman Kayla Hendrix (Canyon del Oro HS), Aguirre, Rodriguez, Figueroa and Dehler all had RBI hits and runs scored in the inning. The Aztecs led 21-7 after the inning was over.
Figueroa also had a two-run RBI double in the 2nd inning as she finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs. Lopez added an RBI single as part of the 4th inning and went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs. Aguirre was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and four runs. Mendoza closed it out going 3 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs while Rodriguez finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs. Freshman Soleil Ponce (Sunnyside HS) went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs. Hendrix finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs. Dehler closed it out the game at 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs.
Machado picked up the win in a relief appearance as she threw three and two-third innings, giving up three runs (three earned) on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks on 72 pitches.

Game 2: South Mountain Cougars 10, (6) Pima Aztecs 2 (5 innings)
The Cougars snapped Pima’s 12-game winning streak after a fast start scoring six runs in the 1st inning. The Aztecs got all their hits in the first two innings.
Dehler hit an RBI single to drive in Lopez-Bedoy, who was hit-by-a-pitch to start the inning. With two outs, Aguirre hit an RBI single to bring in Dehler to cut the Cougars’ lead to 6-2. The Cougars scored four unanswered runs to earn the run-rule win.
The Aztecs loaded the bases with two outs in the 4th inning but Rodriguez struck out to end the threat.
Aguirre was 2-for-2 with an RBI while Dehler finished 1-for-1 with an RBI and a run.
Ferrentino took the loss in the circle as she pitched four innings, giving up 10 runs (10 earned) on 10 hits with two strikeouts and two walks on 90 pitches.

The Aztecs will return to the West Campus Aztec Field on Tuesday for an ACCAC conference doubleheader against Scottsdale Community College. First game starts at 12:00 p.m.
