Colorado Springs, CO) Sun Devil Hockey senior forward Bennett Schimek was named NCHC Forward of the Week after posting a conference-best five points over the weekend, the league office announced Tuesday morning.
Schimek tallied three assists and one goal in the team’s 6-5 overtime win over Colorado College on Friday, Jan. 30. Schimek picked up the primary assist on the game-winning goal from sophomore defenseman Joel Kjellberg. Schimek’s four-point performance was a game best and his fifth game this season with three-plus points. Additionally, he had a season-best five blocks in the win.
On Saturday, he extended his point streak to four games after picking up his 27th assist of the season on junior forward Kyle Smolen’s third period goal. Schimek’s five points over the weekend ranked the second most by any skater across the NCAA.
Schimek’s 27 assists this season are tied with Michigan Tech’s Stiven Sardarian for most in the NCAA and are atop the NCHC. The Minnesota native has assembled a team-best 38 points this season, which is tied with teammate Cruz Lucius for the third-most points in the country.
Arizona State returns to Mullett Arena this weekend, hosting St. Cloud State in a two game series, which can be seen on NCHC.TV, set to begin on Friday, Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. MST.
