Aciel Guillen and Jesse Neretlis provide spark as Baseball splits with Cochise CollegeN

(Tucson, AZ)  The Pima Community College baseball team (7-2) was back at the West Campus Aztec Field on Tuesday as it hosted a non-conference doubleheader against Cochise College.
The No. 21 ranked Aztecs had one run and three hits in the first game but bounced back in the second game to earn the split with the Apaches.
Sophomore Jackson Glueck closed out the day going 2 for 5 with two RBIs while fellow sophomore Leon Cereceres was 2 for 7 with a run scored. Sophomore Shawn Barros (Salpointe Catholic HS) took the loss in the first game and freshman Jesse Neretlis got the win in the second game.

Game 1: Cochise Apaches 5, (21) Pima Aztecs 1

The Aztecs got on the board in the 1st inning but had just one hit and three walks the rest of the game.

Cochise College scored two runs in the top of the 1st inning and never relinquished the lead. Glueck hit an RBI single in the 1st inning to score Cereceres, who led off the inning with a single.

Glueck finished the game 1 for 3 with an RBI while Cereceres was 1 for 4 with a run. Freshman Damian Lorta (Desert View HS) closed out the game going 1 for 2 with a walk.

Barros took the loss as he pitched four innings, giving up four runs (four earned) on seven hits with four strikeouts and four walks on 98 pitches.

Game 2: (21) Pima Aztecs 4, Cochise Apaches 2

The Aztecs took the lead and halted a Cochise rally in the 7th inning to earn the win.
Freshman Adriel Figueroa-Brito put the Aztecs on the board in the 3rd inning with an RBI single that scored sophomore Ramon Martinez.

The Aztecs tacked on two more in the 5th inning. With the bases loaded and two outs, freshman Aciel Guillen (Salpointe Catholic HS) hit a two-run RBI double to score Lorta and freshman Cooper Kruk (Catalina Foothills HS) to make it 3-0.

Martinez led off the 6th inning with a single and scored on a sacrifice-fly RBI by Glueck to put Pima up 4-0.

The Apaches scored two runs in the 7th inning but sophomore Diego Garcia (Salpointe Catholic HS) was able to put the game away and earn the save.

Guillen finished game 2 for 2 with two RBIs while Martinez went 1 for 2 with two runs. Figueroa was 1 for 3 with an RBI and Glueck closed it out, going 1 for 2 with an RBI. Lorta and Kruk each finished 1 for 4 with a run scored.

mNeretlis picked up the win as he pitched six innings, giving up two runs (two earned) on three hits with eight strikeouts and three walks on 90 pitches. Garcia got his first save of the season, pitching one inning, giving up two hits.

The Aztecs will open ACCAC conference play on Saturday when they host Mesa Community College in a doubleheader at Aztec Field. First game starts at 12:00 p.m.
