(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College softball team (1-0) got back on the West Campus Aztec Softball Field on Saturday as it hosted Yavapai College in the final day of the Stacy Iveson Invitational.
The No. 6 ranked Aztecs defeated the Roughriders 6-3 as they held off a late rally and got an insurance run to help seal it.

Freshman Tayah Lyons hit a lead-off single in the 3rd inning and was sacrificed-over to second after freshman Kayla Hendrix’s (Canyon del Oro HS) bunt. Lyons went on to steal third base and was driven in by freshman Alyssa Aguirre’s (Sabino HS) fielder’s choice. Aguirre made it 2-0 when she scored on sophomore Amerika Lopez-Bedoy’s (Sunnyside HS) RBI single.
Hendrix and Aguirre reached on back0-to-back errors to open the 5th inning. With one out, sophomore Clarissa Figueroa (Mountain View HS) hit a two-run RBI double to right field to bring them in as Pima took a 4-0 lead. Sophomore Julissa Lopez (Tucson Magnet HS) reached base on an infield error that scored Figueroa to cap the inning.
The Roughriders scored three runs in the 6th inning, but the Aztecs got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Hendrix hit an RBI double to score Lyons, who hit a double in the previous at-bat.
Figueroa finished 1 for 2 with two RBIs while Lyons went 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Hendrix was 1 for 2 with an RBI and a run. Aguirre had an RBI and two runs scored.
Sophomore Belen Camacho (Pueblo HS) got the win in the circle as she pitched seven innings, giving up two runs (two earned) on six hits with six strikeouts and one walk on 98 pitches.
