Tucson Starts Strong in Culiacan, Defeats Tomateros 3-2

(Culiacan, Sinaloa)  The Tucson team started their series with a victory in Culiacan, Sinaloa, defeating the Tomateros 3-2 in the first game of the series being held at General Angel Flores Stadium in the Sinaloa capital.

The scoring opened in the third inning when Arizona’s Ramón Mendoza scored on a single by Marcos Valenzuela, marking the young player’s first RBI in the ARCO Mexican Pacific League.

In the sixth inning, Tucson extended their lead to 2-0, scoring again on an RBI single by River Town that sent Ramón Mendoza home, this time for the second run of the game.

Culiacan narrowed the gap to 2-1, scoring in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by J.P. Martinez.

The game was tied in the top of the seventh inning when Joey Meneses scored the second run for the Guindas on run walked in.

Tucson regained the lead in the bottom of the seventh when Marcos Valenzuela drove in
Agustín Ruiz with a sacrifice fly to center field. Charlie Hasty earned the win with a full inning of relief, while Garret Alexander recorded the save. Francisco Haro took the loss, allowing one run in one-third of an inning of work.
