Tucson Can’t Contain Jaguar’s Artillery

(Tepic, Nayarit)  The first series between the debuting teams

in the ARCO Mexican Pacific League, Jaguares de Nayarit and Tucson Baseball Team, began

at the Coloso del Pacífico stadium in Tepic, Nayarit.

The Jaguares de Nayarit got carried away, scoring 10 runs against Tucson’s pitching, who fell

in the first game of the series in Tepic.

Tucson started the scoring with two runs in the first inning, crossing home plate twice to take a 2-0 lead. José Carlos Ureña drove in the first run with a single, scoring Jesús Fabela and Bobby Bradley, who also singled to bring Gaige Howard home with the second run.

Tepic tied the game in the bottom of the second inning with a home run by Jacob Amaya,

bringing in veteran Jesse Castillo. The Jaguars’ offense exploded in the bottom of the third

inning, scoring a hefty 6-run rally that forced the exit of starting pitcher Zoé Carrillo, who

allowed 7 earned runs, raising his ERA to 4.42.

Jacob Amaya drove in one with a single, Randy Romero doubled another, José Heberto Félix

singled to left field to drive in two more, and Brando Villareal doubled in two more runs for

the Nayarit team, making the score 8-2 in favor of the home team.

Not content with this, the Jaguars added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning,

driven in by José Heberto Félix and scoring Niko Vázquez.

Another run, making it 10-2, came in the sixth inning for Nayarit, this time with a solo home

run by Jacob Amaya off Erick Preciado.

Zoé Carrillo took the loss, putting his record at 2-1 in wins and losses, while Jared Wetherbee

earned the victory.
