(Glendale, AZ) The Pima Community College women’s soccer team (8-1-5, 8-0-3 in ACCAC) found itself in a battle on Wednesday in its game at Glendale Community College (5-4, 5-4).
Freshman Yajaira Cervantes (Tucson Magnet HS) converted on a penalty kick with 2:08 left as the No. 13 ranked Aztecs defeated the Gauchos 3-2. It was Cervantes’ 12th goal of the season.
The Aztecs got on the board when freshman Ava Dagnino (Salpointe Catholic HS), last week’s NJCAA and ACCAC Division II Player of the Week, scored her 10th goal of the season in the 16th minute.
Cervantes scored her first goal of the game in the 30th minute to put Pima up 2-0 with an assist from Dagnino.
The Gauchos tied the game with back-to-back goals by Dameris Zamora (77th minute) and Jaidyn Rowles (82ndminute).
The Aztecs finished with 11 shots on goal while the Gauchos had six for the game. Freshman Angelina Moraga (Sabino HS) finished with four saves.
The Aztecs hit the road once again on Saturday for an afternoon contest at Paradise Valley Community College. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m.
