Aztecs Men’s Soccer has 10-game winning streak snapped at Glendale CC

(Glendale, AZ)  The Pima Community College men’s soccer team (12-2, 9-2 in ACCAC) suffered a rare defeat on Wednesday as it played at Glendale Community College (7-2-1, 7-2-1).

The No. 4 ranked Aztecs tied the game in the first half but went scoreless in the second half falling 2-1 to the Gauchos, snapping their 10-game winning streak. Pima’s last defeat was on Sept. 6 at Phoenix College.

Sophomore Robert Castaneda (Nogales HS) converted on a penalty kick in the 25th minute to tie the game at 1-1.

The Gauchos got on the board in the 22nd minute with a goal by Nathan Johansen. Glendale took the lead for good at the 80:58 mark with Hubert Muka’s goal.

The Aztecs finished with six shots on goal and the Gauchos had five. Freshman Tommaso Leonardi closed out the game with three saves.

The Aztecs will be back on the road on Saturday when they play at Paradise Valley Community College. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
