(Tucson, AZ) The Pima Community College volleyball team (14-13, 7-8 in ACCAC) rallied to put away Scottsdale Community College (5-17, 1-14) on Friday to close the regular season.
The Aztecs beat the Artichokes in four sets 21-25, 28-26, 25-12, 25-19.
The Aztecs were in danger going down two games as it trailed 24-20 in the second set. They rallied off five straight set points and won in extra play to tie the match. The momentum carried on into the third and fourth sets to seal it.
Freshmen Madi Nash (Sahuaro HS) and Jade Romine (Canyon del Oro HS) each had double-doubles in kills and digs. Nash finished with 15 kills and 20 digs while Romine produced 15 kills and 11 digs.
Sophomore Kaitlin Schmich (Mountain View HS) had 25 assists while fellow sophomore Lyrica Tavesi (Pima HS) posted eight kills, four blocks and three aces.
The Aztecs return to the NJCAA Region I, Division II Tournament for the first time since 2015. They will be the No. 4 seed and will open the double elimination tournament on Thursday against No. 1 seed South Mountain Community College at 7:00 p.m. All matches will be played at South Mountain Community College in Phoenix.
