(Mesa, AZ) The Pima Community College men’s track & field team competed in the first day of the Region I Championships on Tuesday at Mesa Community College.
The Aztecs sit in first place with a total of 103 points. They lead Mesa Community College (86 points) and Central Arizona College (63 points).
Freshman Nasir Tucker claimed the Region championship in the Long Jump as he finished with a jump of 7.59 meters (24-feet, 11-inches) on his third attempt. He earned 10 team points for the Aztecs. It is the eighth straight year the Aztecs have won the Region title in the Long Jump.
Freshman Adam McCoy took first place in the Pole Vault as he cleared the height of 4.67 meters (15-3.75) on his second attempt. He secured 10 team points for Pima.
Freshman Nathaniel Curtiss (Rincon/University HS) finished in third place in the Long Jump with a mark of 7.23 meters (23-8.75). He grabbed six points for the Aztecs.
Freshman Carter Huntsman also scored six points for Pima after he was third in the Pole Vault at 4.52 meters (14-10).

Tyler Rodgers – Fourth place in Long Jump 7.19 meters (23-7.25) (5 points)
Asa Fish – Fourth place in Javelin 55.35 meters (181-7) (5 points) (National qualifier)
Benjamin Morgan (Sabino HS) – Fifth place in Hammer throw 42.69 meters (140-0) (4 points)
Dillon Arvayo (Mountain View HS) – Fifth place in Pole Vault 4.07 meters (13-4.25) (4 points); Sixth place in Javelin 49.53 meters (162-6) (3 points)
Jacob Acedo (Gila Ridge HS) – Seventh place in Long Jump 6.72 meters (22-0.75) (2 points); Eighth place in Pole Vault 3.77 meters (12-4.50) (1 point)
Broden Cahoon – Eighth place in Javelin 45.43 meters (149-0) (1 point)
The Aztecs close out competition at the Region I Championships on Thursday. Events begin by 3:00 p.m. at Mesa Community College.
