“It was a very hard fought match and I’m really happy for our team”, said head coach Tony Amato. “We had a lot of Wildcats in the stands that supported our team through the 90 minutes. We showed great character and it was great to get the win.”
At the end of the first half, neither team was able to get on the score sheet as the Anteaters outshot the Wildcats 7-4. The second half was a different story though as Arizona outshot UC Irvine 10-4 and eventually scored the game-winner with about 20 minutes to go. The Wildcats also created a more chances from corner kicks on the night, earning seven as opposed to UC Irvine’s four.
